Ben Medley, LMSW, is a psychotherapist specializing in individual and couples therapy, and works in private practice with David K Schwing, LCSW, in New York City.
Ben holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from New York University, reknowned for its clinical focus and training. For over six years, Ben has provided psychotherapy to individuals, groups and couples and has specialized in working with the LGBTQ community. His expertise includes working with adults of all ages who struggle with depression and anxiety, sexual and gender identity, substance abuse and recovery, sexual issues, trauma and cultural adjustment.
Before joining a private practice, Ben worked as a therapist in Greenwich House’s AIDS Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Programs and developed a mental health program for college students studying abroad in Florence, Italy. In addition to his private work, Ben also works as a psychotherapist in an outpatient mental health program at the Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services (JBFCS) and is a member of their LGBTQ treatment unit.
Ben actively pursues ongoing training and uses a variety of approaches in his work including mindfulness meditation, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and systems-centered group therapy (SCT), in addition to more traditional psychodynamic approaches. He has also earned a post-graduate certificate in Advanced Clinical Work with the NYU School of Social Work.
